LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team put together their best offensive performance of the season on Thursday night, but fell late 69-58 to Upper Iowa. The Cardinals drop to 0-3 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell fell into an early 11-6 hole but quickly responded with a 6-2 run, capped by a bucket from Skyler Boylan to pull within one. The Peacocks scored at the end of the first quarter to make it a 19-15 game after 10 minutes.
• Upper Iowa outscored the Cardinals 21-14 in the second quarter to take a 40-29 lead into the locker room. 
• After the Peacocks pushed their lead to 16 early in the third frame, Jewell went on a run, outscoring UIU 18-4 over the final five-and-half minutes to trail by just three after a triple from Kate Hillyer at the buzzer. 
• An Emree Zars jumper just inside the start of the fourth period cut the deficit to just one, 56-55, but the Peacocks followed with an 11-0 run to go back in front by 12 and never relinquished their lead. 

KEY STATS

• Shannon finished with a team high 14 points while Zars added 12.
• Boylan pulled down seven rebounds while Shannon, Chloe Frank and Katie Knock each had two steals. 
• Jewell forced Upper Iowa into 12 turnovers which led to 15 points.

The Cardinals must rebound quickly with another non-conference matchup on Friday night against Blackburn. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
