Cold Fourth Quarter Dooms Cardinals in Close Loss to McKendree

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team suffered through cold shooting in the fourth quarter as McKendree rallied to defeat the Cardinals 75-70 on Monday night. Jewell drops to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKendree took an early six point lead, but the Cardinals responded with a 15-6 run, capped by two free throws from Skylar Boylan to hold a three point advantage at the end of the first period, 20-17. 
  • The Cardinals continued their upward momentum into the second quarter, pushing their lead to 13 after a 14-4 run, led by seven points from Chloe Frank. The Bearcats finished the half on a 12-5 run to cut into the lead but Jewell led at the break, 39-33. 
  • Jewell outscored the Bearcats 22-16 in the third quarter, shooting 50% from the field and connecting on 4-of-5 three point attempts, including two from Katie Knock, to push their lead back to double digits, 61-49. 
  • Two free throws from Frank gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the day to start the final period, but McKendree finished on a 26-7 run to rally and escape with the win. 

KEY STATS
  • Four Cardinals finished in double figures, led by Frank's 17, to go with a team high eight rebounds. 
  • Kate Hillyer was 3-of-6 from long range to finish with 13 points while Rachel Senn and Emree Zars each scored 10.
  • Jewell grabbed 11 offensive rebounds to led to 12 second chance points. 
  • The Cardinal bench was productive, outscoring their counterpart 25-14.

The Cardinals hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Indianapolis on Thursday. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. eastern time.
