LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team got off to a fast start on Saturday afternoon en route to a 79-62 win over crosstown rival Rockhurst University. The Cardinals move to 6-6 on the season and 3-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• From the very start the Cardinals were on top, as Jordan Jermain hit a three just seconds into the game. Mason Alexander followed with two more triples to give Jewell a 15-4 lead, just four minutes into the game and forcing an early Hawk timeout.  
• The Cardinals continued to pour it on, expanding the lead to 27 with under five minutes to go in the opening period after back-to-back threes from Alexander. Rockhurst doubled their point total in the last four-plus minutes but the Cards led 43-24 at the break. 
• Consecutive Grant Stubbs threes early in the second half, pushed the lead to 29, before a Rockhurst run cut it back to a 65-44 game after a 10-2 run. The Hawks out shot Jewell in the second half but the Cardinals were able to maintain the double-digit lead through the end.   

KEY STATS

• Jewell shot 39% for the game but hit 13 three pointers. 
• Stubbs poured in a season best 19 points on 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from long range. 
• Jermain added 17 points, Alexander 14 and Kobe McKinley 12. 
• Heri Tshiyoyo led Jewell with 11 rebounds while McKinley had nine and Jermain, eight, as Jewell out rebounded the Hawks 47-31
