Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Slow Start Dooms Cardinals at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. - The William Jewell men's basketball team got off to a slow start on Monday night at Southern Nazarene and could not recover, falling 60-40. The Cardinals drop finish the 2022 portion of the season at 6-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team scored more nearly two-and-half minutes to open the game but a Kobe McKinley jumper at the 17:20 mark tied the game at two. The Cardinals went the next six minutes without field goal but managed to keep things close with superb defense, trailing by only nine.
  • The offensive struggles continued for Jewell, going 1-for-10 over the next seven minutes as the Crimson Storm expanded their lead to 18 late in the half. A Mason Alexander three at the buzzer, the first of the game for the Cardinals, made it 29-16 at the break.
  • Jewell got the offense going to start the second half but SNU was able to maintain a double digit advantage for the first eight-plus minutes.
  • Trailing by 16, Alexander grabbed a steal that lead to a Grant Stubbs three to kick start a 7-0 Cardinal run to quickly cut the deficit down to nine after a free throw from Jordan Jermain. The Crimson Storm followed with 16-3 run to grow their lead to 22 late in the game.

KEY STATS
  • Jermain finished with a team high 10 points while Heri Tshiyoyo and Kobe McKinley had seven rebounds.
  • Jewell shot 32% for the game, but just 21% from three point land.
  • While the offense was cold, the defense was again strong as the Cardinals held their opponent to 63 points or less for the seventh time this year.
