ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The William Jewell women's basketball team fell just short of an upset of No. 17 ranked Alaska Anchorage on Saturday night, 87-83. The loss drops Jewell to 2-9 on the season while the Seawolves move to 7-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Trailing by one, just over two minutes into the game, the Cardinals went on a 22-7 run, capped by a three by Bree Shannon at the buzzer to give the Cardinals a 25-11 lead after 10 minutes of play. 
• Jewell grew their lead to as many as 18 early in the second quarter after a layup from D'Asya Collier-Williams. The Seawolves closed the gap with a 21-8 run to make it a 43-38 Cardinal lead at the break. 
• UAA started the second half by outscoring 13-6 to go on top by two but the Cardinals followed with a 17-5 run, led by five points apiece from Emree Zars and Ayden Shannon to push the lead back to 10. 
• Alaska Anchorage used a 22-8 run to start the fourth quarter and go back in front, 78-74, and did not relinquish the lead. 

KEY STATS

• Zars put together another double-double with a career best 23 points while gathering 10 rebounds. 
• Bree Shannon came off the bench to pour in a career high 19 points, on 7-of-11 from the floor, to go with five assists. 
• Kate Hillyer added 18 points, going 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from three. 
• Jewell shot a season best 56% from the floor, including 52% from long range, connecting on 11-of-21 attempts.
