Jewell Dominates the Paint in Bounce Back Win over Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell men's basketball team picked up a 76-60 victory on Saturday at Lewis University to improve to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals got off to a bit of a slow start, as Lewis took an early 15-9 lead midway through the first half. A jump shot from Eli Wingert kick started 27-12 Jewell run to close the first period with a 36-27 lead. 
  • Grant Stubbs kept the momentum going in the second half, scoring the first six point with a traditional three point play followed by a long range three.
  • Leading by 15 midway through the period, Jewell outscored the Flyers 11-3 after a triple from Isaac Patterson to open up their largest lead of the day, 66-43. 
  • The Flyers got back within 11 late but back-to-back buckets from Wingert, including a breakaway alleyoop iced the win for the Cardinals. 

KEY STATS
  • Four players finished in double figures, led by Jordan Jermain's 16. Stubbs added 13 while Patterson and Wingert came off the bench to score 10 each. 
  • The Cardinals dominated the paint, out rebounding Lewis 36-29 while blocking seven shots to tie the team NCAA era record. Kobe McKinley posted three rejections, Heri Tshiyoyo had two, while Patterson and Wingert each had one. 
  • Jewell shot 53% from the field and was 21-of-26 from the free throw line while holding the Flyers to 36% from the floor, including 20% from three.

Jewell is back at home on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup with Kansas Christian.
