Cardinals Dish Out Season High 21 Assists in Big Win over Kansas Christian

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team used a big second half to down Kansas Christian College on Wednesday evening by a final of 101-70, reaching the century mark for the first time since 2019. The Cardinals improve to 5-6 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell started hot from behind the three point line, as Jordan Jermain and Mason Alexander combined to hit five from long range in the first eight minutes and open up an early 25-11 lead.
  • The Falcons cut into the lead but two more triples from Alexander and Isaac Patterson pushed the advantage back to double digits. Heri Tshiyoyo got an offensive rebound, tip in at the buzzer to give Jewell a 49-37 lead at the intermission. 
  • The Cardinals picked up where they off in the second half as Grant Stubbs got in on the three point party before a dunk from by Kobe McKinley quickly pushed the Jewell lead to 17. After KCC got back within 14, the Cards went on a 26-9 run, capped by another three from Patterson to give Jewell their biggest of the day at 91-59. 
  • The bench got in on the action over the final minutes as Luke Jordan and Jalen George each a three to bring the score to the final. 

KEY STATS
  • Jewell shot 51% from the floor, including 45% from long range, hitting a season best 14 three pointers. 
  • The Cardinals handed out a season best 21 assists, the most since last December, led by Alexander's career high nine. 
  • Jermain poured in a game-high 25 points on 5-of-8 from three to go with four assists. 
  • Tshiyoyo scored 17 points while pulling down 15 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, the most by a Cardinal since 2015. 
  • In total, five players finished in double figures as McKinley added 13 points while Alexander chipped in 12 and Patterson scored a career best 11. 
  • Jewell dominated the glass, out rebounding the Falcons 48-26, including 19 offensive rebounds which led to 27 second chance points.
