ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell women's basketball team suffered a 57-45 setback at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals drop to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in GLVC action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first quarter went back-and-forth early until the Cardinals used a 7-1 run, capped by a three from Ayden Shannon, to open up a six point lead. The Flyers countered with a spurt of their own to tie things up at 18 after 10 minutes of play. 
• With Jewell leading 25-24 midway through the second period, the Flyers finished the half on an 11-3 run to hold a 33-28 advantage at the break. 
• The Cardinals quickly responded in the third period as a bucket from Emree Zars put Jewell back in front, 37-36, but Lewis again finished the quarter strong with a 7-2 run to retake the lead with 10 minutes to play. 
• Jewell tried to rally in the fourth, but went cold from the field, shooting just 21% as Lewis' lead expanded to as many as 13 late. 

KEY STATS

• Shannon led the Cardinals with a season high 14 points while Zars pulled down a game best 14 rebounds. 
• Jewell shot 33% from the field overall with Lewis just slightly higher at 34%.
