Last Minute Rally Comes Up Short Against Prairie Stars

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team went on an 8-0 run in the final moments of Thursday's game against Illinois Springfield but ran out of time, falling 64-53 to drop to 11-12 on the year and 7-8 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Jermain scored Jewell's first seven points but the Cardinals fell behind by 10 with under five minutes to go in the opening half. Jewell got four free throws from Jermain and Trey Shannon over the final 48 seconds to close the deficit to seven, 20-27 at the break. 
  • The Cardinals got within four early in the second half after a triple from Jermain but UIS followed with a 25-11 run over the next 10 minutes to open up their largest lead of the day at 58-40. The Cardinals got triples from Shannon and Alexander along with a bucket from Jermain to close the gap to just nine with 40 seconds to play but could get no closer. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jermain led all scorers with 19 while Alexander added 10. 
  • Jermain and Grant Stubbs each pulled down a team high seven rebounds 
  • Jewell was held to 37% from the floor and 27% from long range but outscored UIS 16-6 in the fastbreak. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals host Lewis University on Saturday in their final home game of the season. Jewell will recognize seniors Mason Alexander and John Zimmerman prior to tip off.
