QUINCY, Ill. - The William Jewell men's basketball team overcame an 18-point first half deficit to take a late lead at Quincy University on Saturday but the Hawks rallied to pull out the 65-61 win. The loss drops the Cardinals 12-14 on the season 8-10 in GLVC play.

  • The Cardinals got buckets from Jevaughn Ferguson, Jordan Jermain and Isaac Patterson to close the half but trailed 33-18.
  • Jermain and John Zimmerman hit back-to-back threes to open the second half and quickly cut the deficit to single digits, 35-26. Another three, this time from Mason Alexander made it a seven-point game but the Hawks followed with a 8-0 run to expand their lead back to 15.
  • Alexander took over after that, scoring 15 and leading the Cardinals on a 19-4 run to tie things up at 49. The two teams went back and forth over the following four minutes before a Grant Stubbs layup gave Jewell their first lead of the game, 56-55, with 2:46 to play.
  • The Hawks got a bucket from Adam Moore to go back in front by one and connected on 7-of-9 free throws down the stretch to escape with the win.
