Second Half Run Lifts Cardinals Past Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team used a big run midway through the second half on Thursday to down Rockhurst 75-64 and complete the season sweep of the Hawks for the first time in four years. The win moves the Cardinals to 13-14 on the season, marking the program's most wins since 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a back-and-forth affair with 15 lead changes and nine ties in the opening 20 minutes. Trailing by three, Jewell went on an 11-2 run to go on top by six.
  • Rockhurst quickly responded, eventually taking a 34-32 lead but a Grant Stubbs dunk with less than 40 seconds remaining made it a tied game at the break.
  • Leading by two with 10 minutes to play, the Cardinals went on an 14-2 run to open up a 14-point advantage after back-to-back threes from Mason Alexander.
  • Jewell grew the lead to as large as 20 with two minutes to play before the Cardinal bench came on to finish the game. Rockhurst scored the final nine points to bring the score to 75-64.
