SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team went on a late run, closing the gap to single digits over the last three minutes but came up short on Monday evening at Drury falling 72-65. The loss drops the Cardinals to 11-11 on the season and 7-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drury got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 15-5 lead, only to see the Cardinals got on a 11-0 run, led by seven points from Jordan Jermain, to take their first lead of the day. The Panthers responded with a run of their own, outscoring Jewell 25-15 over the next 10 minutes to go back in front by nine and take a 44-35 lead into the break.
- Drury started the second half, much like the first, expanding their lead to as large as 17 midway through. Trailing by 15 with 3:10 to play, the Cardinals made a run at a comeback, with back-to-back threes from Jermain and a bucket from Kobe McKinley to cut the deficit to just seven but neither team scored again in the last minute, finishing with a final of 72-65.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jermain led the offense with 22 points while Heri Tshiyoyo added a double-double of 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
- Mason Alexander chipped in six points, three assists and two steals.
- Jewell shot 44% from the field but just 6-of-22 (27%) from long range.
