Stockton Picks Up Win No. 600 in Sweep of Parkside

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team continued to roll on Monday winning both ends of a doubleheader to sweep the four-game series over Wisconsin Parkside. The win in the nightcap gave head coach Mike Stockton the 600th of his career, all at the helm of the Cardinal program. Jewell moves to 11-2 on the season and have won seven straight.

Game 1: Jewell 18, Parkside
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Parkside led off the game with a solo home run to center field but that didn't faze the Cardinals who sent every player on the lineup to the plate and came back with five runs on seven hits in the first inning to go on top 5-1.
  • Jewell added three more in the second to break things open early as Jake Wilcox scored on a sac fly before Alex Epp unleashed on a ball to center, a two-run shot, to put the Cards up 8-1.
  • In the third, Chase Elias led off with his first career home run to right center while Wilcox sent his first long ball over the left field wall in the fourth as Jewell expanded their lead to 15-2 after just four frames.
  • The Rangers scored two in the sixth, but Jewell came back with three more in the bottom of the inning on RBI from Kevin Witcher, Drew Reed and Elias.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell pounded out a season high 25 hits in the opener with 18 RBI, while striking out just twice.
  •  Hansen, Epp and Cole Conner all boasted four hits with Elias leading the way with four RBI
  • Wilcox finished with a team high four runs while Hansen and Epp each scored three times.
  • Jake Sawyer (2-0) earned the win, working six innings, striking out four.

Game 2: Jewell 11, Parkside 10
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The offense onslaught continued into game two for the Cardinals who immediately scored in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run from Hansen.
  • In the third, the Rangers scored twice to briefly take the lead but Jewell came back with seven in the bottom of the frame. RBI from Quincy Aldrich, Will Brant, Elias and another homer from Hansen put the Cards up 9-3 early.
  • Jewell got two freebies in the fourth, scoring on a bases loaded walk to Elias before Conner slid home on a wild pitch to make it an eight run lead.
  • Parkside made things interesting down the stretch scoring two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth to pull within one but Drew Dant stranded the tying run at third before picking up three quick outs in the ninth to shut the door.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell put up 12 more hits, led by three each from Hansen and Conner.
  • Hansen, who had two home runs among his three hits, also led the team with four RBI.
  • Jackson Bodinson (1-0) picked up the win, working six innings and striking out a career best eight batters.
  • Dant earned his fourth save of the season, and second of the series, with one and two-third clean innings with two punch outs.
