Cardinals Drop Midweek Matchup at Avila in Extra Innings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team saw their seven game win streak come to an end on Tuesday afternoon in a 12-11 loss to Avila University in 10 innings. The Cardinals move to 11-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell started strong, scoring four first inning runs, capped by a two-run long ball by Quincy Aldrich
  • After Avila put one on the board, Jewell immediately got it back as Jake Wilcox scored on an error in the second to make it 5-1.
  • The Cardinals added two more in the fourth on an RBI double by Anthony Hansen and ground out.
  • In the sixth, Jonah Sanford put a pinch hit single into left field to score Cameron Fliege. Anthony Hansen followed in the eighth with a solo home run, his sixth of the season, to make it a 9-1 game.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, with Jewell leading 9-2, Avila worked three hits and six free passes to eventually tie the game at nine and force extra innings.
  • In the 10th, Jewell put two runs across on RBI singles from Hansen and Cole Conner to go in front but the Eagles plated three in the bottom half of the frame including a walk off single to center.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Wilcox posted four hits, four runs while swiping four bases.
  • Hansen and Conner each finished with three hits while the former also scored three times and three RBI.
