Late Runs Push UMary Past Cardinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team opened a three-game series with the University of Mary on Thursday afternoon, dropping a 12-6 decision. The Cardinals fall to 11-4 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mary took an early lead after loading the bases in each of the first three innings. A double play in the first plated a run before an RBI hit-by-pitch added another in the second.  
  • Jewell rallied in the bottom half of the second inning, putting five runs on the board. With a runner on, Quincy Aldrich tripled to left field before scoring an error to tie the game. Three batters later, Jake Wilcox added two more with a triple of his own and scored on an RBI ground out. 
  • The Cardinals added another run in the fourth as Cameron Fliege singled to left to make a 6-3 game. 
  • Mary scored nine runs over the next four innings to put the game away.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell outhit UMary 15-13, led by Jonah Sanford who went 5-for-5 with a run and a double. 
  • Wilcox and Anthony Hansen also had three hits with the former leading the team with two RBI. 
  • Brogan McDougall (2-1) took the loss, going 2.2 innings in relief, allowing five earned runs while striking out two. 

UP NEXT
With expected rain overnight and into Friday, the Cards and Marauders will take Friday off before completing the series on Saturday with a doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m.
