Jewell Softball Hosts McKendree, UMSL in GLVC Action

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team is looking to ride the momentum of a big weekend ending win over Maryville into a new week of conference action. The Cardinals take on McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend.

📊 LIVE STATS CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is 6-16 on the season, 2-6 in GLVC play, and coming off a 13-2 win over Maryville on Sunday to split with the Saints after getting shutout the previous day at Lindenwood. 
  • Abby Vandiver hit .363 last week over a 10-game stretch with six runs, seven RBI and two home runs. The sophomore, who hit the game tying blast in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Emporia State, has upped her season average to a team high .360. 
  • Hailey Wall hit two home runs against Maryville on Sunday to lead the team with 10 RBI while Allison Rawls is hitting .339 with a team best 21 hits and 14 runs scored. 
  • Aliyah Santiago got two wins last week to improve to 2-4 with a team best 4.05 ERA over 36.1 innings of work. As a staff, the Cardinals have struck out 74 batters with a 4.74 ERA. 
  • Sydney Parra picked up her first career win and save against Emporia State, while making her team high 11th appearance.  
  • Dustin Combs is in his 16th season with the Cardinals, chasing win No. 400 for his career and a return to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2018.  
     
ABOUT McKENDREE 
  • McKendree enters the weekend at 10-14 on the season, 2-6 in GLVC action, and ave dropped three of four last week to Quincy and Illinois Springfield. 
  • Olivia Stansbury is the reigning GLVC Player of the Week and is hitting a team high .480 with nine doubles, eight home runs and 25 RBI. 
  • As a team, the Bearcats hit .293 and have stolen 24 bases. 
  • The pitching staff is led by sophomore Ellie Quaethem who boasts a 3.00 ERA and 74 strikeouts over 67.2 innings and eight complete games. 
  • Heather Tarter is in her first season with the Bearcats after four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville. 

ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
  • Traditionally one of the top programs in the GLVC, Missouri-St. Louis has gotten off to another strong start at 7-1 in league play and 18-9 overall. 
  • Three players hit over .300 for the Tritons, led by McKenzie Lamos at .394. The junior also leads the team with eight doubles, four triples and seven home runs to go with 23 RBI and 29 runs scored. 
  • Three pitchers have appeared in at least 11 games for UMSL, led by Annie Scaramuzzi, a two-way player, who boasts a 1.17 ERA and 71 strikeouts over 65.2 innings with four shutouts. As a staff, the Tritons allow opponents to hit .241 with seven shutouts. 
  • UMSL is led by Amanda Scott, a former four-time All-American pitcher at Fresno State and the 2019 GLVC Coach of the Year.
