KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team bounced back from a series opening loss with two wins over Rockhurst on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals were dominant, shutting out the Hawks in game one, 10-0, before taking game two 6-2. Jewell moves to 22-12 on the season, 9-6 in conference play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 10, Rockhurst 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Five pitches into the game the Cardinals were on the board as Jake Wilcox tripled and scored on a two-run home run from Anthony Hansen.
- Jewell added two runs in the fourth as Chase Elias put an RBI single into right field before scoring on a wild pitch.
- Quincy Aldrich led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a Hansen double.
- Jewell plated five runs on three hits in the sixth to push the lead to double digits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Hansen went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs to lead the offense.
- Reed Pegram (3-2) earned the win by tossing a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits with eight strikeouts.
GAME TWO: Jewell 6, Rockhurst 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rockhurst scored first in the nightcap but the Cardinals tied things up on a sac fly from Cameron Fliege.
- Jewell took the lead in the fifth as back-to-back errors by the Hawks allowed Cole Conner to score.
- RU tied the the score in the bottom of half of the fifth but Anthony Hansen ensure it didn't last with a two-run home run in the sixth, followed by an RBI fielder's choice and sac fly by Conner and Drew Reed to bring the score to the final.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Wilcox led the way with two hits and two runs while Hansen had two RBI.
- Jake MacDonald (6-1) earned the win, working all seven innings and striking out six.
