WAYNE, Neb. - The William Jewell baseball team put up their highest run output of the NCAA era on Tuesday afternoon, winning 22-14 on the road at Wayne State, avenging two earlier losses this season. The Cardinals improve to 24-12 on the season, marking their most wins since 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell wasted no time jumping on top with three runs in the top of the first inning but the Wildcats responded with two home runs in the bottom half to tie the game.
- The Cardinals added eight runs over the next two innings with RBI base hits from Anthony Hansen and Cameron Fliege doing most of the damage.
- Wayne State got two back in the third but the Cards tacked on five more on RBI knocks from Hansen, Jake Wilcox and Alex Epp to push their lead to 11.
- The Wildcats scored single runs in the fourth and fifth, two in the sixth and five in the eighth to get back within five but a bases clearing double from Fliege made it a 22-14 final.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell pounded out 21 hits and 19 RBI while drawing seven walks.
- Hansen collected four hits, three runs and an NCAA single game record seven RBI.
- Epp added four hits and three RBI while Elias and Fliege had three base hits a piece with the latter adding five RBI.
- Wilcox and Elias scored a team high four runs.
- Levi Ebersoldt (1-2) got his first win, working six innings with four strikeouts.
