KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In a doubleheader that featured 47 combined runs on 60 hits, the William Jewell baseball team split with Maryville, winning 11-9 before falling 16-11. The Cardinals move to 25-13 on the season and 11-7 in GLVC play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 11, Maryville 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Things started fast in the first inning as Maryville put up four runs on five hits but the Cardinals got two back on a home run to center field off the bat of Cameron Fliege.
- The Saints pushed a run across in the third but Jewell rallied to tie things up in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on a bases clearing double down the right field line by Ryan Dickerson.
- The Cards took their first lead in the fifth as a base hit up the middle from Alex Epp scored two.
- Maryville came right back with three runs on four hits to go back in front, 9-7. However, Jewell tied things up immeditely on a RBI groundout from Jake Wilcox followed by an RBI single from Anthony Hansen.
- The Cardinals added runs in the seventh and eighth to put the game away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Fliege finished 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs.
- Hansen, Epp and Dickerson each had two hits as the latter also led the team with three RBI.
- Drew Dant (4-1) earned the win with three shutout innings in relief.
GAME TWO: Jewell 11, Maryville 16
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell took the early lead in the nightcap, sending 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring five runs. Fliege singled to right field, plating the first run followed by an RBI base knock from Drew Reed. Quincy Aldrich delivered the big blow with a two-run double to center.
- Maryville rallied in the third, scoring four runs on four hits and added three more in the following frame to take a 7-5 lead.
- In the fourth, Aldrich led off with an inside the park home run to the deepest part of right center field followed by a home run to right field from Wilcox to quickly tie the game once again.
- The Saints responded with eight runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to go on top by eight. Jewell got four runs back in the bottom half but could get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Aldrich posted four hits and three RBI to lead the Cardinals.
- Wilcox added three hits while Fliege drove in three.
- Will Fisher (0-1) took the loss, allowing two earned runs.

Weather permitting, the Cardinals and Saints are scheduled to wrap up their series on Saturday with another doubleheader beginning at noon.
