Cardinals Hand Lindenwood First GLVC Loss in Split

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team shutout Lindenwood 3-0 in the nightcap of a Saturday doubleheader, after dropping game one, 4-2. The win moves the Cardinals to 17-8 on the season, 4-3 in GLVC play, while also handing the Lions their first conference loss, after starting 6-0. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 2, Lindenwood 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lindenwood scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second and held the lead until the fifth when Cameron Fliege singled to center, scoring two and tying the game. 
  • In the top of the seventh, the Lions put the first two batters on before both scored on a Cardinal throwing error to take a lead they never relinquished. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Fliege and Cole Conner each finished with two hits. 
  • Reed Pegram (1-2) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. 

GAME TWO: Jewell 3, Lindenwood 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three and half scoreless innings the Cardinals broke through in the fourth as a Chase Elias groundout scored Alex Epp. Jonah Sanford followed with an RBI single to left scoring Conner. 
  • Jewell added a run in the following frame as Quincy Aldrich led off with a triple and scored on a Jake Wilcox single to center. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Wilcox and Conner posted two hits as the Cardinals finished with eight total. 
  • Jake MacDonald (5-0) remained unbeaten with the complete game shutout, striking out four and only allowing two hits and two walks. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals and Lions will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
