Cardinals Host UIS and Lewis in GLVC Action

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team looks to get back on track this weekend as they play host to Illinois Springfield and Lewis University.

  • Due to field construction at Cardinal Field, games will take place at the Urban Youth Academy in downtown Kansas City.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell enters the new week at 10-22 on the season and 4-12 in GLVC play. After winning three in a row to close March, the Cards ran into two of the league's top teams last weekend, dropping four. 
  • Abby Vandiver missed last weekend but is leading the team with a .369 average. Allison Rawls follows at .333 with a team hit 31 hits and seven doubles. 
  • Hailey Wall and Ella Hoffman boast a team high four home runs with the former leading the way with 17 RBI. 
  • In the circle, Sydney Parra threw the best game of her young career in a 1-0 loss at No. 5 UIndy last Saturday. The freshman gave up only one solo home run and has vaulted to the team lead in ERA with 3.99 over 15 appearances.  
  • Dustin Combs is in his 16th season with the Cardinals, chasing win No. 400 for his career and a return to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2018.  
     
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD 
  • Illinois Springfield comes into the weekend at 23-13 on the season, 6-8 in the GLVC, and coming off a 10-5 loss to Missouri Western on Wednesday. 
  • Four players hit over .300 for the Stars, led by Danielle Dennis' .394 average. The junior is also tops on the eam with 13 doubles, four home runs and 35 RBI. 
  • Payton Long and Reagan Miles have combined for 27 of the 35 starts in the circle and own 2.12 and 3.32 ERAs, respectively with 125 combined strikeouts. Addyson McClure has appeared in 13 games in relief with a 1.77 ERA. 
  • Shannon Guthrie is in her eighth season at UIS and is the program's all-time wins leader with more than 185 after leading the Stars to back-to-back Regional Championship appearances. 

ABOUT LEWIS
  • Lewis has been hot and cold this season, winning 9-of-12 to start the year, then dropping 11 of their next 12 and now have won seven in a row. The Flyers sit at 17-15 on the year, 6-8 in conference play.   
  • Sara Serena leads the team offensively with a .346 average, 26 RBI, 36 hits and four home runs. 
  • Delaney Garden has scored a team high 20 times while hitting .323 and leads the team in the circle with a 2.69 ERA and 72 strikeouts over 93.2 innings. 
  • Becky Pearl in her eighth season at the helm of the Flyer program and owns nearly 400 wins in her 18 years at the collegiate level.
