BOLIVAR, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team split a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon, outslugging the Bearcats in game one, 13-10, before dropping the nightcap 5-2. Jewell moves to 19-11 on the year, 6-5 in GLVC play.
GAME ONE: Jewell 13, SBU 10
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got off to a strong start, scoring four times in the opening inning on RBI from Anthony Hansen, Quincy Aldrich and Jonah Sanford.
- The Cardinals took advantage of an error and six free passes to plate seven runs on just a single hit in the top of the third to go on top 11-0.
- The Bearcats scored five in the third to get on the board but Jewell got two runs back with a RBI single from Chase Elias in the fourth and solo home run from Cole Conner in the sixth to make it a 13-5 game.
- SBU made things interesting down the stretch with five runs on five hits in the sixth to pull within three but Drew Dant shut the door in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals finished with eight hits, led by two a piece from Sanford and Cameron Fliege.
- Sanford posted three RBI while Conner scored three times.
- Reed Pegram (2-2) earned the win with 5.1 innings of work and five strikeouts.
- Dant earned his seventh save of the season to break the program's NCAA era single season record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- SBU took and early lead only to have the game quickly tied up with an RBI groundout from Sanford scoring Conner.
- Trailing 3-1, Alex Epp homered to pull the Cards within one but the Bearcats added two in the fifth to hold on for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was limited to four hits, one apiece by Epp, Sanford, Drew Reed and Jake Wilcox.
- Jake MacDonald (5-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs while striking out seven.
