LIBERTY, Mo. - Playing their first game on the newly renovated Fred Flook Field, the William Jewell baseball team fell late to Drury University by a final of 14-10. The Cardinals drop to 29-17 on the season and 14-11 in the GLVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Drury plated two early unearned runs, the Cardinals responded with a five spot in the bottom of the first. With two on, Alex Epp doubled to left tying the game. Drew Reed followed with an RBI single to right field to plate Epp before Ryan Dickerson drove in two more with a double down the left field line.
- The Panthers got two solo home runs to pull within one in the fourth but Cameron Fliege blasted a two run shot to left field to push the lead back three, at 7-4.
- In the sixth, Drury rallied to scored four on three hits and an error to take their first lead since the opening frame and added two more in the seventh to make it a 10-7 game.
- In the home half of the seventh, the Cardinals got three straight free passes to load the bases for Quincy Aldrich who tripled to straightaway center to knot things up at 10 but the Panthers scored the final four runs of the game to rally for the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell finished with 14 hits as a team, led by three apiece from Fliege and Epp who both also had two RBI.
- Jake Wilcox and Chase Elias also had three hits while Reed scored twice.
- Drew Dant (4-4) took the loos, allowing four earned runs in relief.
