ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon, despite out-blocking the Tritons 9-3. The Cardinals fall to 7-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opener was back-and-forth early before UMSL went on a 9-3 run to open up a 20-16 advantage. The Cardinals rallied using an 8-3 spurt of their own, behind four kills from Tatum Ernt to tie the set at 24-all, however, back-to-back kills from Lexie Rang gave the Tritons the first set 26-24.
- Trailing 9-7 in set two, Jewell used a 5-0 run behind Alex Dvorak's serve to pull ahead, 12-9. The Cardinals maintained their lead until a kill from UMSL tied things up at 20. Four errors by the Tritons and a kill from Bella LaPorta gave the Cardinals the set 25-22 and tied the match at one set apiece.
- Jewell struggled offensively in the final two sets, hitting just .013 and falling 25-12, 25-10.
KEY STATS
- Three Cardinals finished in double-figure kills led by Ernt's 11. Dvorak and LaPorta added 10 each with the latter also posting three aces and 15 digs.
- Dvorak led the blocking effort with six while Ernt had three.
- Haidan Baade had 16 digs while Samantha Thompson finished with 10 to go go with a team high 24 assists.

The Cardinals return home next weekend, hosting Maryville on Friday night followed by McKendree on Saturday at 4 p.m.
