KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team traveled downtown to take on crosstown rival Rockhurst University on Monday night. The Cardinals fell 76-48 and drop to 4-15 on the season and 2-7 in league play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rockhurst started quickly, jumping out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter. Emree Zars hit a 25-foot shot at the buzzer to make it 17-10 after 10 minutes of play. 
• The Cardinals responded in the opening possessions of the second quarter as free throws from Rachel Senn and Kate Hillyer and a three by Chloe Frank brought Jewell back within five. Bree Shannon scored the last five points of the half as the Cardinals trailed 32-25 at the break. 
• Trailing by 14 in the third quarter, Jewell got to the free throw line on back-to-back possessions as Ayden Shannon and Frank pulled things back to 11. 
• The Hawks outscored Jewell 28-11 in the fourth quarter to close out the game. 

KEY STATS

• Bree Shannon came off the bench to lead the team with 10 points, while Zars had nine to go with seven rebounds. 
• The Cardinals shot 24% from the field but connected on 20-of-27 from the free throw line.
