Cardinals Take On Drury, Southwest Baptist in Split Weekend

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball heads south to face No. 3 ranked Drury on Thursday night before returning home on Saturday to take on Southwest Baptist. 

THE SERIES
The Cardinals 3-18 against against Drury in the NCAA era, last winning in an 80-64 upset of the then-No. 14. Lady Panthers. Meanwhile, on the other side, Jewell is 2-6 against Southwest Baptist and looking for their first win since December 2020.  
 

CARDINAL NOTES

  • Jewell is coming off a 76-48 loss at the hands of Rockhurst on Monday night on the road. Bree Shannon came off the bench to lead the Cardinals with 10 points. 
  • Ayden Shannon and Emree Zars continue to lead the Cardinals with 10.4 and 10.3 points, respectively. Jewell is the lone team in the conference with two freshmen ranked among the league's top-30 scorers. The duo has combined for 20 games in double figures.  
  • Chloe Frank blocked a shot on Monday against the Hawks to bring her season total to 14, fourth best in the GLVC, and an average of 0.74 per game. As a team, the Cardinals reject more than two per outing as Rachel Senn has eight and A. Shannon seven while six others have at least one. 
  • Jewell makes their living by the three point shot, launching more than 22 per game which ranks third in the GLVC and top-60 nationally. Frank, A. Shannon and Kate Hillyer are all among the top-11 with at least 27 made threes this season. The Cardinals shoot 30.2% from long range while holding opponents to 32.3%. 
  • Zars led the Cardinals in rebounds on Monday, for the ninth time this season. The freshman enters the week ranked third among GLVC players and tops among rookies with 5.4 defensive rebounds per game and 126 total boards. 
  • Jewell got to the free throw line 27 times on Monday night, their second highest total this season. The Cardinals connected on 20 of those shots to maintain a 75.9% clip in conference play, second only to Indianapolis.
