LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team continues GLVC play this week, hosting Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday before traveling to Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon for a matchup with the Miners.Â
THE SERIES
This is the 15th meeting with the Tritons of UMSL in the NCAA era, with the Cardinals going 4-10 during that span. The last win came in January 2017 with a 64-41 victory. Jewell is 10-9 against Missouri S&T since joining the GLVC. After winning six straight from 2018-2021, the Cardinals have dropped the last two. Â

CARDINAL NOTES
- Jewell is coming off a a 68-53 loss to Southwest Baptist on Saturday and looking to snap a five-game skid.Â
- Bree Shannon has proven to be a valuable asset off the bench for the Cardinals, averaging 5.4 points, including 6.5 in conference play, and swiping 21 steals. The freshman southpaw led Jewell in scoring on Saturday, for the third time this season, with 13 points to go with five rebounds. Shannon is also tops on the team and 14th in the league with a 78% clip from the free throw line in conference play.Â
- Libby Arnold has played a utility role for the Cardinals during her career, appearing at nearly all five positions at some point over the last three years. This season, she has primarily spent time at the four or five, consistently defending the post. Despite being undersized at the five spot, the junior has been effective recently, including scoring a season high 10 points on 5-of-9 from the floor against No. 3 ranked Drury.Â
- The Cardinals are seventh in the GLVC with 6.6 three point field goals per game and third with more than 22 attempts. Ayden Shannon, Kate Hillyer and Chloe Frank have all hit at least 28 on the season to lead the way while four others have connected on at least five. As a team, Jewell shooting 30% from long range and holds their opponents just under 32%.Â
- Emree Zars continues to be one of the top performing freshmen in the league, averaging 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, which is tied for ninth overall and best among conference rookies. Her four double-doubles is tied for third most in the league as she is one of only two underclassmen with at least three, joined by Southwest Baptist sophomore Claudia Vanzant.
