LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell swimming teams faced off with new crosstown rival Rockhurst University to open the 2023-2024 season on Friday evening at Kresge Pool. The Cardinal women downed the Hawks 127-74 to earn Jewell's first Kansas City Crown point of the year, while the men were defeated 115.5-89.5.
Martina Torrent and
Maddie Atwood led the Cardinals with two wins apiece. The former won the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:13.16 followed by the 200 breaststroke at 2:41.79 while Atwood won both sprints with a 27.59 in the 50 free and 1:00.81 in the 100. On the men's side,
Alan Jovic led Jewell with three top-two finishes in the 800 free, 400 free and 200 breaststroke.
