KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Behind relentless offense and a stifling defense, the William Jewell men's basketball picked up a dominant 86-57 win over Davenport University to open the 2023-2024 season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both offenses started a bit slow in the new season as the Cardinals took the lead on a layup from Kobe McKinley that sparked a 27-6 run over the 14 minutes. A three from Luke Jordan pushed the lead to 21 as Jewell took a double-digit lead into the locker room.
• Davenport cut the lead to 15 early in the second half but the Cardinals followed with a 43-15 run, capped by a three from Kyle Scharbrough and two free throws by Jordan Jermain to give Jewell their largest lead of the day, 81-40. The Jewell bench got in the game late and maintained the large lead and bring the score to the final of 86-57. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jermain paced four Cardinals in double figures with 23 points and 12 rebounds. 
• Grant Stubbs added 13 points while Trey Shannon and Kobe McKinley added 10 points a piece with Shannon handing out a tem best four assists.
