HOUGHTON, Mich. - The William Jewell women's basketball team fell 76-57 in the 2023-2024 season opener on Friday evening at Michigan Tech. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals shot 50% in the opening quarter led by back-to-back threes from Chloe Frank and Kate Hillyer to trail 19-16 after one frame. 
• A from Ayden Shannon to open the second quarter pulled Jewell within one, 19-18, but the Huskies finished the half on a 17-6 run to extend the lead to a dozen. 
• The Huskies pushed their lead to 27 midway through the fourth quarter but a three from Ellie Knock ended the run. Shannon scored the final points and got Jewell back in with 19 to the final of 76-57.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Shannon led the Cardinals with a career high 23 points on 10-of-18 from the floor. 
• Emree Zars picked up a team best six rebounds.
