PITTSBURG, Kan. - The William Jewell men's basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with an 85-72 win over Pittsburg State to move to 5-1 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Playing shorthanded, the Cardinals got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind 12-7 early. Back-to-back threes from Kyle Scharbrough and Grant Stubbs tie things up at 17 with under 11 to play in the first half. 
• Trailing by five with 3:48 to go in the half, Justice Sutton hit a three to start a 7-0 run. The teams headed to the locker room knotted at 39. 
• The Cardinals started the second half with an 18-10 run over the first seven plus minutes to go in front, 57-49. Pitt State cut the led to just two with under six minutes to play. Jewell but Eli Wingert got another Cardinal run started to take their largest lead of the day at 85-69. The Gorillas scored the final three points but couldn't over come the double digit advantage. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Sutton and Stubbs each led the Cardinals with 17 points while Jordan Jermain added 16. 
• Wingert was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, scoring 15 points while Trey Shannon chipped in 10. 
• Jewell shot 58.5% from the field and scored 42 points in the paint. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday night against Missouri-St. Louis. Due to scheduling conflicts the game will be played on the campus of Missouri Baptist.
