LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team continues their three game road trip this week with stops at McKendree and Maryville in the second half of the season series.Â
THE SERIES
In the NCAA era the Cardinals lead the Bearcats 6-4, with McKendree taking a highly contested 75-70 game on November 28. Meanwhile, leads the series 11-6 and have won the last three including a 63-47 win in late November to open conference play.
CARDINAL NOTES
- Jewell is coming off a a 79-68 loss at Missouri S&T on Saturday. After a strong opening quarter, Missouri S&T built a 16-point lead in the second half. The Cardinals rallied to cut it down to seven in the final minutes but ran short on time.Â
- In her first career start, Bree Shannon poured in 19 points over the weekend on 7-of-11 from the floor. The freshman has a season best 19 in three different games while shooting a team best 43.4% from the field this year.Â
- After a string of low offensive outputs, the Cardinals bounced back, shooting 41% from the floor and scoring 68 points against Missouri S&T, their seventh highest total of the year. The team also pulled down 41 rebounds, fourth most in a game this season.Â
- The Cardinals get a second shot at two teams from earlier this season. Jewell held a lead over McKendree for 25 minutes in the first meeting but a late rally from the Bearcats, combined with cold shooting in the fourth quarter allowed MCK to get past the Cardinals. The last time these teams met was the opening weekend of conference play for the four Jewell freshman playing significant minutes. The group is averaging a combined 25-plus minutes per contest this season.Â
- After a slow start to 2023, Chloe Frank has picked up her offensive production in recent days, averaging 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 42% from long range. The freshman is seventh in the GLVC in three point field goals with 38, tied for 12th in the NCAA era and most by a rookie.Â
- Emree Zars enters the week with 144 rebounds this season, 13th by a Cardinal in the NCAA era and most by a freshman. She currently ranks eighth in the conference with 5.0 defensive rebounds per game and 11th with 6.5 total per outing.
