LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team rallied from an early double digit deficit to post a dominant 82-54 win over Lewis University on Thursday evening. The win moves the Cardinals to 13-11 on the season and 10-6 in conference play, matching the most GLVC wins in a single season with the 2018 team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied at seven in the early minutes, Lewis went on a 22-9 run, shooting 73% over a span of seven-plus minutes to get out in front 29-16. Jordan Jermain and Mason Alexander followed with a 12-0 on their own trading three pointers on four consecutive trips down the floor.
- A layup from Heri Tshiyoyo gave Jewell their first lead since the 15:59 mark, but Lewis outscored the Cards 9-6 over the final minutes to hold a 38-36 lead at the break.
- After a quick bucket from Lewis' Jamere Hill in the early seconds of the second half, the Cardinals shut down the Flyers, going on a 46-10 run to put the game away. Grant Stubbs hit back-to-back threes to put Jewell back in front before Alexander and Heri Tshiyoyo took over, combining for 16 points over the next 15 minutes as the Cardinal bench put the game on ice late after scores by Eli Wingert and Luke Jordan.
