LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team gave No. 7 ranked Indianapolis all they could handle on Saturday but came up just short in the final minutes, falling 64-60. The Cardinals drop to 13-12 on the season and 10-7 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams traded punches in a defensive first half. After more than eight scoreless minutes the Cardinals trailed 22-14 with a little over five minutes to play in the opening half. Kobe McKinley found Jevaughn Ferguson for a slam dunk to spark a 11-0 run, including three straight three point field goals from Jordan Jermain and Mason Alexander. The teams traded buckets late and ended the half tied at 25. 
• UIndy used quick spurts but could never separate by more than seven. Trailing 52-45 with less than seven minutes to play the Cardinals got a layup from McKinley and a two dunks from Eli Wingert to pull back within one, 56-55. The Greyhounds countered however, with back-to-back three pointers to push their lead back to seven as Jewell was able to get two late layups and close the gap to four but got no closer. 

KEY STATS

• Jermain led the Cardinals with 18 points on 7-of-14 from the floor to go with four assists. 
• Alexander added 14 points, including four three pointers. 
• Jewell shot 40.4% from the floor but was just 5-of-10 from the free throw line.
