SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The William Jewell men's basketball team suffered a 73-65 loss at Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals drop to 14-13 on the season and 11-8 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The teams went back-and-forth early, sitting tied at a dozen with just under 17 minutes to go in the first half. UIS used a 15-5 run over the next eighth minutes to open up a 10-point advantage, 27-17.
• The Cardinals cut things down to three after layups from Kobe McKinley and Jevaughn Ferguson but the Stars pushed it back to eight, 39-31, to close the half. 
• UIS opened up a 15-point lead to start the second half. Jewell battled, going on a 26-17 run, to cut the deficit to six, after a McKinley layup with just over four minutes to go, but the Stars two a late shot and two free throws to keep Jewell at bay. 

KEY STATS

• McKinley led the Cardinals with a team high 20 points. 
• Jordan Jermain added 13 points while Heri Tshiyoyo had 12 points and a team best six rebounds. 
• Jewell shot 44% from the floor but were just 5-of-15 from long range while UIS was 50% from the field and three point line.
