2/22/2023 10:00:00 AM

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team returns home this weekend to close out the 2022-2023 season as they host Truman State for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

THE SERIES

The Cardinals will suffered a 99-53 setback to Truman back on January 12 in the first meeting of the season on the road. Overall in the NCAA era, Jewell trails 15-3 in the series with the last win coming back on February 14, 2019.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • Jewell is coming off a tough 89-57 loss to Illinois Springfield on Saturday. After a big first quarter, the Cardinal offense struggled in the second frame as UIS built a nine-point lead and never looked back. Kate Hillyer scored 16 points, her most since December 11 at Alaska Anchorage.
  • Jewell is seventh best in the GLVC in three point field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents just under 32% from long range. They'll need to continue that pace this week as Truman comes to town as the top three-point shooting team in the league at 38%.
  • The Cardinal offense has run through the hands of the Shannon sisters this winter. In their debut season, the pair has combined for 16.3 points and 2.9 assists per game. Ayden Shannon averages a team best 10.1 points and 1.6 assists per game while Bree Shannon is second on the team with 1.3 assists and 6.2 points per outing.
  • Jewell enters the final week of the year ranked fourth among league foes in free throw percentage at 74.8% over 19 games. Rachel Senn has gone a perfect 18-for-18 from the strip in league action while Hillyer, Elizabeth Ernsting, Ayden Shannon, Libby Arnold and Bree Shannon have all shot better than 75%.
  • Katie Knock got her first start since early November last week and made the most of the opportunity. The junior tied her season high with 10 points on 4-of-6 from the floor, to go with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 16 minutes of play.
  • The Cardinals will recognize two seniors on Saturday after the game. Four-year player Mary Capron is a native of Columbia, Missouri and has appeared in a career best 12 games this season. Meanwhile, D'Aysa Collier-Williams is a second-year transfer out of Johnson County Community College and has played in more than 40 games for the Cardinals.
