ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team rallied from down 10 in the second half to defeat Maryville 71-66 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals move to 12-11 on the season and 9-6 in GLVC play, including their fifth road conference win, the most since joining the league in 2011-2012.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maryville led by six early but a Mason Alexander three followed by buckets from Heri Tshiyoyo and Jordan Jermain pulled things back to 16-15, in favor of the Saints. MU followed with a 12-5 run over the next six-plus minutes to go back in front by eight and led by six at the break, 30-24.
- The Saints expanded their lead to double digits with 15:28 to play, 41-31. Jewell used an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to chip away until a three from Jermain gave the Cardinals their first lead of the day, 44-43 with under 11 minutes to go.
- The teams traded points over the next eight minutes, with neither gaining more than a four point advantage. A flagrant foul gave Jewell back-to-back possessions and they converted, scoring four points to push their lead to seven. The Cardinals held Maryville at bay and connected on all four free throws late to secure the five point win.
