Women's Basketball Returns Home to Host Lewis, UIndy

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team returns home for their final full home weekend to host Lewis University and Indianapolis. 

THE SERIES
In the NCAA era the Flyers lead the series 11-1, including a 57-45 win back on December 3 in Illinois. On the other side, the Cardinals are 5-7 against Indianapolis in the NCAA era with the most recent win came back on November 11, 2020, winning 63-58. 

CARDINAL NOTES

  • Jewell is coming off a positive showing on Saturday at Maryville, despite dropping a 72-57 decision with the Saints. The Cardinals came out of the gates and shot 50% from the field and hit three first quarter triples, but went cold late in the fourth quarter as Maryville pulled away. 
  • Bree Shannon has entered the starting lineup recently after putting together a strong first five weeks of 2023. The southpaw has averaged nearly 11 points per game, including a career high 19 in two different contests. Along with her sister Ayden, they are combining to average 16.3 points per outing and a Shannon has led the Cardinals in scoring in each of the past five games and 11 of the last 14. 
  • Skyler Boylan has played a key role off the bench in the last few weeks, averaging 5.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game over the last seven. The sophomore scored a season high 11 points on Thursday at McKendree, going 6-of-6 from the free throw line. 
  • Emree Zars continues to be one of the top rebounders in the GLVC, averaging 6.2 boards per game, which ranks among the top-15 in the league. She leads the team with four doubles-doubles, most by any freshman in the conference. 
  • The Cardinals enter the week ranked fifth in the GLVC in three point percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 31.1% from long range. Offensively, Jewell makes on average 6.6 triples per night, including hitting at least seven in four of the last five. Chloe Frank and Kate Hillyer lead the team with 109 and 108 attempts and at least 35 makes on the season while Ayden Shannon follows close behind at 33 made threes.
