Cardinals Post 17-3 Win in Split with Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The William Jewell baseball game won their 20th game of the season on Friday in a split with Indianapolis. The Cardinals, 20-13 overall and 9-9 in the GLVC, took game one 17-3 before dropping the nightcap 8-3. 

GAME ONE (Jewell 17, UIndy 3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell went on top first as Alex Epp singled and scored on a double from Jake Wilcox
  • The Greyhounds tied things up in the second, but the Cards came right back with two more in the third on an RBI from Jordan Phillips
  • In the fourth, Jewell took advantage of two UIndy errors and three free passes to plate four runs, despite not recording a hit to open up a 6-1 lead. 
  • Leading 7-2 in the top of the sixth, the Cards pounded out six hits and scored a whopping nine runs on RBI from Phillips, Wilcox, Drew Reed, and Quincy Aldrich to expand their advantage to 16-2. 
  • The Cards added one more for good measure as Kaden Owens walked and scored on a balk to make it 17-3. 

KEY STATS
  • Jewell finished with 14 total hits, led by three each from Wilcox and Owens. 
  • Epp scored five times while Wilcox and Phillips drove in three. 
  • Jackson Bodinson (4-2) earned the complete game run-rule win, allowing just two earned runs over seven frames. 

GAME TWO (UIndy 8, Jewell 3)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals again scored early, as Wilcox flied out to left to score Epp who had singled. 
  • Will Brant led off the second inning with a solo home run to left center to make it 2-0, in favor of the Cardinals. 
  • UIndy scored five runs on five hits in the bottom half of the second to go in front, 5-2. 
  • Trailing by four, starting the fourth frame, Aldrich got out two out home run to left field to pull Jewell within three. 
  • The Hounds added two runs in the sixth to bring the score to the final of 8-3.

KEY STATS
  • Epp added three more hits in the nightcap, while scoring a run. 
  • Brant, Aldrich and Reed had the other three Jewell hits. 
  • Levi Ebersoldt (1-1) took the loss, allowing four earned in one inning. 
  • Caden Wanless picked up four strikeouts over two innings in relief. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals and Greyhounds will complete the series on Saturday with another doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. EST.
