LIBERTY, Mo. - A late game rally gave the William Jewell baseball team a 3-2 comeback win over crosstown rival Rockhurst University in the series opener on Friday night at Talley Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 23-15 overall and 11-10 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rockhurst scored two early runs on a wild pitch and sac fly to take a 2-0 lead. 
• With one out in the eighth, Quincy Aldrich doubled down the left field line followed by a walk to Jake Wilcox to put the tying run on base. Dawson Tweet reached on a fielder's choice as the throw to second went high to load the bases for Alex Epp who sent a shot to second that was mishandled allowing two to cross the plate and tie the game. Will Brant then put a deep fly ball into center to score Tweet and give the Cardinals the lead. 
• Rockhurst loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but Caden Wanless got a strikeout to shut the door. 

KEY STATS

• Jewell was limited to three hits in the win from Brant, Aldrich and Drew Reed while Epp drove in two. 
• Jackson Bodinson (5-2) picked up his fifth win, working eighth innings allowing just two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. 
• Wanless (2) grabbed his second save, tossing the final frame.
