LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team downed Rockhurst University 9-4 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Talley Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 25-16 overall and 13-11 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rockhurst opened the game with two runs on two hits in the top of the first to take the early lead but the Cardinals came right back with three in the home half. After Jake Wilcox singled on the first pitch, Dawson Tweet sent the next delivery over the right field wall. The next three batters all reached base before the Hawks got a double play but Alex Epp crossed the plate to take the lead. 
• The Hawk's Cole Wagner led off the second inning with a solo home run to quickly tie the game but Jewell again responded. An error and a walk put two on for Tweet who singled through the right side to score Jonah Sanford. A sac fly from Epp scored another to push the lead to two, 5-3. 
• The Cardinals added a run in the fourth, two in the sixth and another eighth to expand the lead to six. 
• Rockhurst hit a solo home run to right in the top of the ninth but back-to-back strikeouts from Jake MacDonald shut the door.  

KEY STATS

• Tweet picked up a team best five hits and five RBI while scoring once. 
• Wilcox added three hits and three runs while Sanford and Quincy Aldrich also scored twice. 
• Jake Sawyer (4-2) earned the win with an eight inning efford, allowing three earned runs.
