ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Maryville University used a big first inning on Friday to down the William Jewell baseball team 10-4 in the series opener. The Cardinals drop to 25-18 overall and 13-12 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Maryville plated seven first inning runs after a grand slam from Max Arnold. 
• Jewell got four back in the top of the second as Quincy Aldrich singled with the bases loaded to score two followed by a Jake Wilcox double to add another. An error allowed Alex Epp to reach and plate another and make it 7-4. 
• Both pitchers settled and put up four scoreless innings before the Saints added two more in the sixth and a final run in the eighth.

KEY STATS

• Epp led the Cardinals with three hits while five others had one. 
• Aldrich drove in two while scoring once. 
• Jackson Bodinson (5-3) suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs while striking out four.
