Jewell Drops 6-5 Decision in Series Finale at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell baseball team suffered a 6-5 loss to Lewis on Saturday afternoon to drop to 19-13 on the season and 8-8 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alex Epp got the scoring started in the top of the third with a solo home run to center field. 
  • Lewis got a solo blast of their own to lead off the bottom half of the frame to tie the game, before adding three more on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. 
  • In the fourth, the Cardinals got two walks and an error to load the bases for Quincy Aldrich who hit a sac fly into the center, scoring Will Brant to cut the lead in half. 
  • Jewell took the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Jordan Phillips got it started with an RBI double before scoring on a base knock from Kaden Owens. Cale Blasi walked to load the bases as Owens scored on a wild pitch. 
  • Lewis rallied in the bottom of the seventh, plating two runs on sac flies and held off the Cardinals the rest of the way to win 6-5. 

KEY STATS
  • Epp went 4-for-4 at the dish with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Brant also had two hits for the Cardinals.
  • Aiden Flood (3-2) took the loss, allowing two earned in two-thirds of an inning.
  • The starter, Jake Sawyer, worked 5.1 frames with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
Jewell is back in action next weekend as they travel to Indianapolis for a four-game series, beginning Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
