LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team rallied multiple times on Sunday afternoon but stumbled to a 22-12 loss to Southwest Baptist. The Cardinals finish the regular season at 29-21 overall and 17-15 in conference play to finish seventh in the league. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Southwest Baptist got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first but the Cardinals came right back with three in the bottom half on a three-run home run from Drew Reed. 
• The Bearcats got four more in the top of the second on four hits. Quincy Aldrich and Jordan Phillips each hit solo home runs to pull within one before Jonah Sanford's groundout in the fourth scored Will Brant to tie the game at six. 
• SBU continued their scoring with two more in the top of the fifth but an Alex Epp double tied things up once in the home half, before scoring on a fielder's choice to give the Cardinals their first lead. 
• Jewell struggled to find outs in the sixth as SBU scored eight runs on one hit and 10 free passes from Cardinal pitching to open up a 16-9 lead. 
• In the bottom half, the Cards did not go down with out a fight, scoring three runs. Jake Wilcox doubled to score Sanford, who had walked. Three more walks added another run and a ground out plated Dawson Tweet to make it 16-12. 
• SBU added three runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to bring the score to the final.  

KEY STATS

• Wilcox led the Cardinals with three hits and thre runs while Reed drove in four. 
• Steven Kleyheeg (1-1) took the loss allowing two earned runs.

Jewell will make their way to the GLVC Championship Tournament next week in Marion, Illinois. The bracket will be released on Sunday evening.
