CALEDONIA, Mich. - The William Jewell football team found success in the early going against No. 21 ranked Davenport but the Panthers rallied in the fourth quarter to down the Cardinals 55-27. Jewell drops to 1-2 on the season heading into Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Davenport took an early 14-0 lead early in the second quarter but the Cardinals got on the board in the first drive of the period. Keaundre McCullough ran for a 70 yard gain to set up a four-yard touchdown pass to Livingston Benoit and cut the deficit in half.
  • The Panthers scored twice more to open up a 28-7 lead with under eight minutes to play in the opening half.
  • Jewell rallied scoring 20 straight points, kick started by a 62-yard connection from CJ Ward to AJ Austene. Ward then found Nathan Barnett for 17 yards on the ensuing drive to make it 28-21 at the break.
  • A successful onside kick to open the third quarter set up a Jewell drive that ended in a 35-yard field goal from Paul Geelen.
  • The Cardinals got a fourth down stop that ended with another Geelen field goal, this time from 42 yards out to bring Jewell within one, 28-27.
  • Davenport ended the fourth quarter with 27 unanswered points to put the game out of reach late.
