LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell volleyball team downed McKendree University 3-0 on Saturday to pick up their first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season. The Cardinals improve to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in league action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Tied at 15 midway through the opening set, the Cardinals got three kills from Alex Dvorak and an ace by Hannah Cope to break out to a 20-15 advantage. McKendree pulled within one but a block from Dvorak and Maliyah Johnson turned the momentum back to Jewell who closed with three kills from Bella LaPorta to win 25-22. 
• A 12-3 Cardinal run in set two, gave Jewell a 21-14 lead after back-to-back Dvorak points. The teams traded points the rest of the way as Jewell held off the Bearcats to win 25-19. 
• Jewell rolled to a 25-16 win in set three, finishing on a 12-3 run, aided by seven hitting errors from McKendree to complete the sweep. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Cardinals hit .250 while holding McKendree to just a .026 attack percentage while picking up nine team blocks. 
• LaPorta finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 13 digs while Samantha Thompson also posted 18 assists and 10 digs. 
• Dvorak added 12 kills and five blocks. 
• Jesa Wallace finished with 20 assists.
