Cardinals Hand UIndy First GLVC Loss in 73-71 Victory

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewellmen's basketball team handed the University of Indianapolis their first Great Lakes Valley Conference loss of the season, earning a 73-71 win on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After getting off to a bit of a slow start offensively, the Cardinals kept pace midway through the first half. With UIndy leading by two, both teams went cold going scoreless for nearly three and half minutes until a free throw from Kobe McKinley and a three by Jordan Jermain put Jewell in front, 22-20.
  • The Cardinals went on a 9-4 run at the end of the half but a three from Jesse Bingham made it a two point game at the break, 38-36.
  • Jewell started the second half on a roll, scoring the first 10 points to open up a 12-point advantage. The Hounds slowly chipped away until taking a 61-60 lead with just over eight minutes to play.
  • Both teams traded buckets and leads over the final minutes as the Jewell defense turned the burners on and it was one free throw a piece from Kyle Scharbrough and Isaac Patterson that made the final difference on the scoreboard.
