LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewel men's basketball team suffered an 85-73 setback on Thursday night at the hands of Upper Iowa. The Cardinals drop to 11-7 overall and 5-5 in conference action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Upper Iowa started hot, taking a 24-16 lead. Eli Wingert hit a jumper followed by a three from Jordan Jermain to get the Cardinals back within a single possession but the Peacocks pushed their lead back, this time to double digits, 35-24.
• Justice Sutton stopped the run with a bucket as Jewell outscored UIU 13-4 over the final four-plus minutes to trail by just two at the break, 39-37. 
• After Jermain quickly tied the game to start the second period, the Peacocks responded with 22-10 run to go on top by a dozen. The Jewell offense went cold over the following minutes as Upper Iowa was able to extend their lead to as many as 19 with under five to play. 
• Three pointers from Isaac Patterson, Trey Shannon and Kankukayi Gudza stopped the bleeding but it was too little too late as the Cardinals fell 85-73.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jermain led the Cardinals with 22 points while also grabbing seven rebounds and four assists. 
• Kobe McKinley finished with 15 points and a team high eight rebounds while Shannon added a dozen points. 
• The Cardinals shot 49% from the floor but were hindered by a season-high 17 turnovers.
