Big Second Half Leads Cardinals to Win Over Truman State

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team used a second half rally to down Truman State on Saturday afternoon by a final of 43-33 to improve to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trailing by four midway through the first half, Trey Shannon gave the Cardinals the lead with a jump shot followed by a three pointer. Truman State went back in front but back-to-back triples from Isaac Patterson gave Jewell a slim 29-28 lead. The Bulldogs closed the half on an 11-2 run to take an eight point edge into the locker room.
  • Jewell outscored the Bulldogs 16-7 over the first seven minutes of the second half, including 10-0 to open, to go from down eight to up five with 12:40 to play after a three from Jordan Jermain.
  • With the Cardinals lead 59-53, Truman State made a 16-9 run to go back in front by one with just two minutes to go. Patterson scored five of the final seven Jewell points including a layup with five seconds on the clock to give the Cards the lead for good. Truman got a shot off at the buzzer but it fell short to give Jewell the win.
