Cardinals Snap Skid with 90-60 Win Over Upper Iowa

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team returned to the friendly confines of the Mabee Center on Thursday where they snapped a recent skid with a big 90-60 win over Upper Iowa. The Cardinals improve to 5-13 overall and 3-9 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell got off to a hot start as Emree Zars scored eight straight points to put the Cards on top by four. Three consecutive buckets from Katie Knock, including a traditional three point play, pushed the Jewell lead to 14. Chloe Frank hit two free throws at the end of the first quarter to Jewell a 30-16 advantage.
  • Knock's three pointer just inside the start of the second quarter pushed the Jewell lead to their largest of the day at 17. From there, Upper Iowa made a run, outscoring the Cardinals 20-8 to pull within five with under three minutes to go in the first half. Kate Hillyer hit a jumper to close the period and send the teams to the locker room with Jewell leading 47-38.
  • The Cardinals maintained their advantage throughout the third period as Frank hit another three to close the quarter with Jewell ahead, 61-53.
  • The fourth quarter saw Jewell put the final nails into the game as Ayden Shannon hit back-to-back triples followed by a pair from Frank and a basket by Caitlin Behling. Hillyer and Ellie Knock also got in on the three point party before it was over as Jewell outscored UIU 29-7 in the final frame to push the advantage to 30.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Frank and Knock led five players in double figures with 17 points each, tying the latter's career high. Ayden Shannon added 15, Zars 12, and Bre Shannon 11.
